“Every child is entitled to a safe home, to unconditional love and care. No form of violence will be tolerated. Together with citizens, the state, municipalities and aid-providing institutions, the provincial government wishes to do everything within its powers to combat child abuse and neglect.”

This occasioned additional investments for tackling child abuse and neglect by the Provincial Government of Noord-Brabant since 2009. In 2013 and 2014, the provincial government initiated the drawing up of the Brabantse Aanpak Kindermishandeling [Brabant approach to child abuse and neglect] (BAK). The BAK sets eight objectives that youth care institutions in Brabant invested in to ensure that high-quality, professional care could continue to be provided to the victims of child abuse and neglect after 1 January 2015 when youth care was transferred to the municipalities. The latter were actively informed with regard to this matter. The objectives concern certified and registered staff, a suitable care range and preventative programmes, implementation of the reporting code act, information exchange, collaboration between institutions and filing complaints with the police.
