MUNICIPALITY OF THEBES

Thebes or Thiva is a town 80km west of Athens. Probably the most ancient continuously inhabited settlement of Greece, is mostly known for its archaic and ancient history and has served as the setting for the plays of Theban Cycle. Throughout the centuries Thebes has been a more or less prosperous town due to industrial and agricultural activities.The cost of the constant human activities during half a geological century, is in par with the challenges any modern developed society copes with: the effort to develop a sustainable model of growth, to guarantee that our ancient city will remain a pleasant and safe home for the generations to come
