The Social Service of the Municipality of Vrilissia, through the Social Protection and Solidarity Municipal Organization is responsible for dealing with cases of children, adolescents and women who fall victim to abuse or domestic violence.

Procedure

The Service is aware of the incidents - mainly through Prosecutor's Orders – and, after a direct notification to the Police Department of the Municipality of Vrilissia, instructs social workers to conduct an enquiry into living conditions.

Individual and family counseling is provided by experienced psychologists.

Through the Parents School, which runs weekly, issues of domestic violence or other violence are discussed, with the aim of informing parents and residents about prevention efforts and strategies.

In cooperation with school, primary and secondary school teachers, children who are experiencing domestic violence are identified, with the aim of prompt and timely intervention by the relevant Social Service Department.

In cooperation with the Nursery Schools which operate in the region of the Municipality and with the weekly presence of a child psychologist in the children's play areas, problematic behaviors which refer to potential inter-family conflicts are detected and are routed on a case-by-case basis.

Through the free psychological support provided by the Municipality, incidents of abuse against women are identified.

Counseling, support, mediation is provided at major Hospitals of the Country, the National Center for Social Solidarity (EKKA) and Hostels for Hospitalization of Abused Women.
