Municipality of Cabeceiras de Basto

The Municipality of Cabeceiras de Basto is the executive municipal council of the municipality of Braga, integrated in the sub-region Ave. The municipality has a surface of 241.82 km ² and 16,710 inhabitants (data from the last Census, 2011). It is subdivided into eight parishes (Abadim, Basto, Bucos, Cabeceiras de Basto, Cavez, Faia, Pedraça and Riodouro) and five unions of parishes (Alvite and Passos; Arco de Baúlhe and Vila Nune; Gondiães and Vilar de Cunhas; Refojos de Basto; Outeiro and Painzela).

According to the powers and duties conferred to the municipality, it is its responsibility to promote and protect the interests of their respective populations, together with the Parishes / Unions of Parishes, in the following areas: rural and urban facilities; energy; transport and communications; education; heritage, culture and science; leisure and sports; health; social action; housing; civil protection; environment and sanitation; consumer protection; promoting development; spatial planning and urbanism; municipal police; external cooperation.
